EXECUTIVE BOARD ELECTIONS

ABOUT THE EXECUTIVE BOARD

Elections for Executive Board members are held in the spring of even-numbered years. According to the YDSC Constitution and YDA Charter, all statewide elected officers must be under the age of 36 to run.

Candidates must be "active members." YDSC defines an active member as "a member in good standing" with this organization who "participates in YDSC, YDSC caucus, YDA, and/or local chapter events and meetings on a regular basis" that the Executive Council defines. In practical terms, members must be active in YDSC for about a year before running for office.

THE PRESIDENT

The President presides over meetings of the Executive Board and the Executive Council (the Board, plus chapter and Caucus chairs and appointed officers) and has authority to call these meetings. The President is ultimately responsible for goal setting and execution, and has the ability to set ad hoc committees to act on our goals.

The President must write a quarterly report to the Executive Board and Executive Council. They may appoint ex officio members with Council consent.

The President is YDSC's official representative to the South Carolina Democratic Party, the College Democrats of South Carolina, and the South Carolina High School Democrats.

The President is one of three elected representatives to the YDA National Committee, and a non-voting member of the SCDP Executive Committee.
