The Young Democrats of South Carolina's Executive Board is set for the next two years.
Bryanta Booker-Maxwell of Columbia, who became President in 2015 to fill out previous President Mike Glymph's term, has been elected to her own two-year term at our State Convention, held April 16 at the Hilton Garden Inn in Aiken.
Austin Jackson of Columbia, the former Alternate Executive Committeeman for the Richland County Democratic Party and our Communications Director, was elected Secretary; and Richland County Executive Committeeman Marcurius Byrd, a USC Law student from Blythewood, was re-elected to his second two-year term as Treasurer.
In a testament to democracy as well as the dedication and the qualifications of both current Secretary Jeni Atchley and Central Midlands vice chair Nia McCray, the race between the two went to three inconclusive ballots. In fact, the third ballot ended in a tie! Maxwell made the decision to declare them both Vice President, with the constitutional changes to be made at the next called Convention. McCray will assume the office of First Vice President and will oversee membership and trainings while Atchley will assume the office of Second Vice President and will oversee policy.
The new board takes office on May 1.
